- COVID-19 Testing
Medical Care For You, P.C., are currently offering three types of COVID-19 tests. These tests will detect if you are actively infected with the virus:
Rapid Test
PCR Test
Serum Antibody IgG (Blood Test)
The Rapid Test & PCR Test
The Rapid Test results are immediate and approximately 85-90% accurate, while the PCR Test takes 2-3 days for the results and has an accuracy rate of 99%.
Anyone who tests positive with the Rapid Test, will be retested using the PCR Test to confirm the diagnosis, as per CDC guidelines.
Should you test negative with the Rapid Test, but your symptoms are overwhelmingly indicative of COVID-19, a PCR test will be administered.
The test is fast, simple, and painless. A nasal swab is inserted approximately midway up the nasal passage and rotated gently in order to collect adequate nasal secretions.
Serum Antibody IgG (Blood Test)
According to the CDC guidelines, in general a positive antibody test is presumed to mean a person has been infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, at some point in the past. It does not mean they are currently infected.
Antibodies start developing within 1 to 3 weeks after infection.
We currently don’t have enough information yet to say whether someone will definitely be immune and protected from reinfection if they have antibodies to the virus.
